As I think about the topic of GOALS, I feel it is important to have them, yet I also believe that I need to recognize that I am not in control of every aspect of my life!
For example, five years ago I had not even heard of Full Sail University. Although my close friend Renee had eagerly shared all that she was learning during her year, and although it interested me, EMDT was not one of my goals at this time last year… In fact, that defining moment didn’t occur until August 31, 2009. Did I plan it? No. Was it the right move? Most DEFINITELY!
That said, how would I describe my current goals?
Long term…
In five years, the safe predictable goal is that I plan to be more advanced in my present position teaching music in Evansville. I will not be a probationary teacher, and very possibly I will supervise a student teacher. I will audit FSO courses to keep up with changes in technology and how it impacts education.
Ideally, (not safe and predictable) I would love to be at an increased percentage at the middle school and teaching only 2nd grade music at the elementary school. Even more unlikely, I joke about having a job teaching at Full Sail and Tom driving buses for Disney, since we will be “empty nesters” by that time!
Short term…
In one year I hope to be using even more technology in my music teaching to engage my learners….
I hope to be using what I have learned in EMDT to participate in staff development in my district…
I hope to be auditing an FSO course and remain connected in some way…
Yes, GOALS are important, but there needs to be BALANCE in the FOCUS…
and as a BELIEVER I recognize the need to be listening for GOD’s voice and seek HIS plan for my life, because in the end, that is the BEST!
